DTC Description
P2649 ROCKER ARM OIL CONTROL SOLENOID
CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE
Is DTC P2649 indicated?
YES : The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.
NO : Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at
the rocker arm oil pressure switch, the rocker arm oil control solenoid, and the PCM.
2. Rocker arm oil control solenoid internal resistance check:
ο‚‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
2. Disconnect the following connector.
ο‚‘
Rocker arm oil control solenoid 2P connector
ο‚‘
3. At the rocker arm oil control solenoid side, measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition IG LOCK (0)
Rocker arm oil control solenoid 2P connector: disconnected
Test circuit VT SOL, PG1
Test point 1 Rocker arm oil control solenoid 2P connector No. 1 (rocker arm oil control solenoid
side)
Test point 2 Rocker arm oil control solenoid 2P connector No. 2 (rocker arm oil control solenoid
side)

Is there 14-30 ohms at room temperature?
YES : Go to step 3.
NO : REPLACE THE ROCKER ARM OIL CONTROL VALVE , then do the repair verification .
3. Open wire check (PG1 line):
ο‚‘
1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition IG LOCK (0)
Rocker arm oil control solenoid 2P connector: disconnected
Test circuit PG1
Test point 1 Rocker arm oil control solenoid 2P connector No. 2 (BLK)
Test point 2 Body ground

Is there continuity?
YES : Go to step 4.
NO : Repair an open in the PG1 wire between the rocker arm oil control solenoid and the G101, then do
the repair verification .
4. Shorted wire check (VT SOL line):
ο‚‘
1. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
2. Disconnect the following connector.
ο‚‘
PCM connector B (49P)
ο‚‘
3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition IG LOCK (0)
Rocker arm oil control solenoid 2P connector: disconnected
PCM connector B (49P): disconnected
Test circuit VT SOL
Test point 1 PCM connector B (49P) No. 33 (GRN)
Test point 2 Rocker arm oil control solenoid 2P connector No. 1 (GRN)

Is there continuity?
YES : The VT SOL wire is OK. Update the PCM See PCM REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or
PCM UPDATE if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM See PCM
UPDATE or PCM REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , then do the repair verification .
NO : Repair an open in the VT SOL wire between the rocker arm oil control solenoid and the PCM
(B33), then do the repair verification .
REPAIR VERIFICATION
ο‚‘
ο‚‘
ο‚‘
1. Reconnect all connectors.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
3. Reset the PCM with the HDS See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE A/T SYSTEM or HOW
TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND EMISSIONS SYSTEMS .
ο‚‘
ο‚‘
4. DO THE PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE .
5. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3, 000 rpm without load (in P or N) until the radiator fan
comes on, then let it idle
