Honda CR-V Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) system ➜ DTC P0117: ECT Sensor 1 Circuit Low Voltage

ECT SENSOR 1  
Does ECT SENSOR 1 change 18 Β°F (10 Β°C) or more?  
YES : Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at  
ECT sensor 1 and the PCM.  
NO : The failure is duplicated. REPLACE ECT SENSOR 1 , then do the repair verification .  
REPAIR VERIFICATION  
ο‚‘
ο‚‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).  
2. Reset the PCM with the HDS See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND EMISSIONS  
SYSTEMS or HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE A/T SYSTEM .

ο‚‘
3. DO THE PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE .  
4. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

P0116 ECT SENSOR 1 CIRCUIT  
RANGE/PERFORMANCE PROBLEM  
Is DTC P0116 indicated?  
YES : Check for poor connections or loose terminals at ECT sensor 1 and the PCM, then go to step 1.  
NO : Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated  
DTC's troubleshooting.

Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and  
review the general troubleshooting information See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT  
THE A/T SYSTEM or HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND EMISSIONS  
SYSTEMS .  
DTC Description  
Confirmed DTC Pending DTC Freeze Frame  
P0117 ECT SENSOR 1 CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE  
1. Problem verification:

ο‚‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).  
2. Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

ECT SENSOR 1 Less than 0.08 V  
Do the current condition(s) match the threshold?  
YES : The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.  
NO : Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at  
ECT sensor 1 and the PCM.  
2. ECT sensor 1 performance check:  
ο‚‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).  
2. Disconnect the following connector.  
ο‚‘
ECT sensor 1 2P connector  
ο‚‘
ο‚‘
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).  
4. Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

Do the current condition(s) match the threshold?  
YES : Go to step 3.  
NO : REPLACE ECT SENSOR 1 , then do the repair verification .  
3. Shorted wire check (TW line):

1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).  
2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.  
3. Disconnect the following connector.  
PCM connector B (49P)  
ο‚‘
4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.  
Test condition IG LOCK (0)  
ECT sensor 1 2P connector: disconnected  
PCM connector B (49P): disconnected  
Test circuit TW  
Test point 1 ECT sensor 1 2P connector No. 2 (PNK)  
Test point 2 Body ground

Is there continuity?  
YES : Repair a short in the TW wire between the PCM (B34) and ECT sensor 1, then do the repair  
verification .  
NO : The TW wire is OK. Update the PCM See PCM REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or PCM  
UPDATE if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM See PCM  
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or PCM UPDATE , then do the repair verification .  
REPAIR VERIFICATION

1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).  
2. Reconnect all connectors.  
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).  
4. Reset the PCM with the HDS See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE A/T SYSTEM or HOW  
TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND EMISSIONS SYSTEMS .

5. DO THE PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE .  
6. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.  
DTC Description  
Confirmed DTC Pending DTC Freeze Frame  
P0117 ECT SENSOR 1 CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE  
Is DTC P0117 indicated?  
YES : Check for poor connections or loose terminals at ECT sensor 1 and the PCM. If the PCM was updated,  
substitute a known-good PCM See PCM UPDATE or PCM REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , then  
recheck. If the PCM was substituted, go to step 1.  
NO : Troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM See PCM  
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or PCM UPDATE . If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are  
indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
