NO : Clean the VTC strainer, REPLACE THE ENGINE OIL FILTER and the ENGINE OIL , then do
the repair verification .
3. VTC oil control valve operation check:

1. TEST THE VTC OIL CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE .
Is the VTC oil control solenoid valve OK?
YES : Go to step 4.
NO : REPLACE THE VTC OIL CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE , then do the repair verification .
4. VTC actuator check:
ο‘
1. INSPECT THE VTC ACTUATOR .
Is the actuator OK?
YES : Check the VTC system oil passages and clean them if needed, then do the repair verification .
NO : REPLACE THE VTC ACTUATOR , then do the repair verification .
REPAIR VERIFICATION (OBD STATUS CHECK)

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Reset the PCM with the HDS See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE A/T SYSTEM or HOW
TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND EMISSIONS SYSTEMS .

3. DO THE PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE .
4. Do the CKP pattern clear/CKP pattern learn procedure See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE
A/T SYSTEM or HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND EMISSIONS SYSTEMS .

5. Do the VTC TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.
6. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P0011 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

P1009 VTC ADVANCE MALFUNCTION
Does the HDS indicate PASSED, FAILED, or NOT COMPLETED?
PASSED : Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs were indicated, go to the
indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
FAILED : Go to step 1 and recheck.
NOT COMPLETED : Check the OBD STATUS again.

YES : The failure is duplicated. Update the PCM See PCM REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or
PCM UPDATE if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM See PCM
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or PCM UPDATE , then do the repair verification .
NO : Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

YES : If the PCM was updated, substitute a known-good PCM See PCM UPDATE or PCM REMOVAL

NO : If the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original
PCM See PCM REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or PCM UPDATE . If any other Pending or Confirmed
DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
