YES : Go to step 4.
NO : Repair the connections or terminals, then do the repair verification .
4. CMP pulse plate B visual check:

1. Remove the cylinder head cover, then check for damage to CMP pulse plate B.
Is the pulse plate damaged?
YES : Replace CMP pulse plate B See CMP PULSE PLATE A REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
or CMP PULSE PLATE B REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , then do the repair verification .
NO : REPLACE CMP SENSOR B , then do the repair verification .

1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
2. Reconnect all connectors.
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
4. Reset the PCM with the HDS See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE A/T SYSTEM or HOW
TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND EMISSIONS SYSTEMS .

5. DO THE PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE .
6. Start the engine, and let it idle for 10 seconds, or test-drive the vehicle for several minutes under the
freeze data conditions (same as step 2-1 ).

7. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC P0369 indicated?
YES : Check for poor connections or loose terminals at CMP sensor B and the PCM, then go to step 1.
NO : Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated
DTC's troubleshooting.

THRESHOLD
1. PGM-FI system check 1:

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
ο‘
2. Clear the DTC with the HDS See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE A/T SYSTEM or
HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND EMISSIONS SYSTEMS .

3. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3, 000 rpm without load (in P or N) until the radiator
fan comes on, then let it idle.
4. Test-drive under these conditions:

Engine coolant temperature (ECT SENSOR 1) above 158 Β°F (70 Β°C)
Transmission in D
Vehicle speed between 45-75 mph (70-120 km/h) for 5 minutes or more with cruise control
set

Vehicle speed between 55-75 mph (90-120 km/h) for 10 seconds, then decelerate (with the
throttle fully closed). Repeat this three or more times
Maintain the vehicle speed at 55 mph (88 km/h) for 5 minutes or more with cruise control set

5. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P0420 with the HDS.

Does the HDS indicate FAILED?
YES : Replace the WU-TWC See UNDER-FLOOR TWC REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or
WARM UP TWC REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , then do the repair verification .
NO : If the HDS indicates EXECUTING, go to step 2. If the HDS indicates OUT OF CONDITION, meet
the test condition and recheck. If the HDS indicates PASSED, intermittent failure the system is OK at this
time.
2. PGM-FI system check 2:

1. Continue test-drive until a result comes on.

2. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P0420 with the HDS.

NO : If the HDS indicates PASSED, intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. If the HDS
indicates EXECUTING, keep driving until a result comes on. If the HDS indicates OUT OF

REPAIR VERIFICATION (OBD STATUS CHECK)

4. Drive the vehicle until the result of CATA MONITOR CONDITION in the DATA LIST on HDS
indicates OK.

EXECUTING : Keep the test condition until a result comes on.
OUT OF CONDITION : Meet the test condition, and check the OBD STATUS again.
