Honda CR-V Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) system ➜ DTC P0651: Sensor Reference Voltage B Malfunction

REPAIR VERIFICATION

ο‚‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).  
2. Reconnect all connectors.  
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).  
4. Reset the PCM with the HDS See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE A/T SYSTEM or HOW  
TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND EMISSIONS SYSTEMS .

5. DO THE PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE .  
6. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

P0641 SENSOR REFERENCE VOLTAGE A  
MALFUNCTION  
Is DTC P0641 indicated?  
YES : Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the PCM and the following parts, then go to step 1.  




MAP sensor  
Output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor  
Throttle body  
APP sensor  
NO : Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated  
DTC's troubleshooting.

NOTE:  
Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and  
review the general troubleshooting information See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT  
THE A/T SYSTEM or HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND EMISSIONS  
SYSTEMS .

MALFUNCTION  
1. Problem verification:  
ο‚‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).  
ο‚‘
2. Clear the DTC with the HDS See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND  
EMISSIONS SYSTEMS or HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE A/T SYSTEM .  
ο‚‘
3. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

P0651 SENSOR REFERENCE VOLTAGE B  
MALFUNCTION  
Is DTC P0651 indicated?  
YES : The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.  
NO : Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at  
the PCM and these parts:  




APP sensor  
A/C pressure sensor  
FTP sensor  
Input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor  
2. Determine possible failure area (VCC lines, others):  
ο‚‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).  
ο‚‘
2. Disconnect the connectors from these parts:  




APP sensor  
A/C pressure sensor  
FTP sensor  
Input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor  
ο‚‘
ο‚‘
Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).  
Clear the DTC with the HDS See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE A/T SYSTEM or HOW  
TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND EMISSIONS SYSTEMS .

Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

MALFUNCTION  
Is DTC P0651 indicated?  
YES : Go to step 4.  
NO : Go to step 3.  
3. Shorted part check:

1. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS while reconnecting these parts, one at a  
time:  




APP sensor  
A/C pressure sensor  
FTP sensor  
Input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor

P0651 SENSOR REFERENCE VOLTAGE B  
MALFUNCTION  
Is DTC P0651 indicated?  
YES : Replace the part that caused the DTC when it was reconnected, then do the repair verification .  
NO : Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the PCM and the following parts, then go to step 1.  




APP sensor  
A/C pressure sensor

4. Shorted wire check (VCC lines):

ο‚‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).  
2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.  
3. Disconnect the following connector.  
PCM connectors A (49P)  
PCM connectors B (49P)  
ο‚‘
4. Check for continuity between these test points and body ground individually.  
Test condition IG LOCK (0)  
APP sensor 6P connector: disconnected  
A/C pressure sensor 3P connector: disconnected  
FTP sensor 3P connector: disconnected  
Input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor 3P connector: disconnected  
PCM connector A (49P): disconnected  
PCM connector B (49P): disconnected

Is there continuity?  
YES : Repair a short in the VCC wire between the PCM (A30, A35, B29) and each part that was  
disconnected in step 2, then do the repair verification .  
NO : Update the PCM See PCM REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or PCM UPDATE if it does  
not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM See PCM UPDATE or PCM  
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , then do the repair verification .

1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).  
2. Reconnect all connectors.  
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).  
4. Reset the PCM with the HDS See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE A/T SYSTEM or HOW  
TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND EMISSIONS SYSTEMS .

5. DO THE PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE .  
6. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
