YES : Go to step 4.  
NO : Repair the connections or terminals, then do the repair verification .  
4. CMP pulse plate A visual check:  
ο‚‘
1. Remove the cylinder head cover, then check for damage to CMP pulse plate A.  
Is the pulse plate damaged?  
YES : Replace CMP pulse plate A See CMP PULSE PLATE A REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  
or CMP PULSE PLATE B REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , then do the repair verification .  
NO : REPLACE CMP SENSOR A , then do the repair verification .  
REPAIR VERIFICATION

ο‚‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).  
2. Reconnect all connectors.  
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).  
4. Reset the PCM with the HDS See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE A/T SYSTEM or HOW  
TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND EMISSIONS SYSTEMS .

ο‚‘
5. DO THE PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE .  
6. Start the engine, and let it idle for 10 seconds, or test-drive the vehicle for several minutes under the  
freeze data conditions (same as step 2-1 ).

7. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

P0344 CMP SENSOR A CIRCUIT INTERMITTENT  
INTERRUPTION  
Is DTC P0344 indicated?  
YES : Check for poor connections or loose terminals at CMP sensor A and the PCM, then go to step 1.  
NO : Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated  
DTC's troubleshooting.  
DTC P0351: NO. 1 CYLINDER IGNITION COIL CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION; DTC  
P0352: NO. 2 CYLINDER IGNITION COIL CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION; DTC  
P0353: NO. 3 CYLINDER IGNITION COIL CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION; DTC

3. Start the engine.  
4. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC P0351, P0352, P0353, and/or P0354 indicated?  
YES : The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.  
NO : Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at  
the ignition coil and the PCM.  
2. Ignition coil check:  
ο‚‘
ο‚‘
ο‚‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).  
2. Exchange the ignition coil from the problem cylinder with one from another cylinder.  
3. Start the engine.  
ο‚‘
4. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC indicated at the exchanged position?  
YES : REPLACE THE FAULTY IGNITION COIL , then do the repair verification .  
NO : Go to step 3.  
3. Shorted wire check (IG1(COIL) line):  
ο‚‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).  
2. Check the following fuse.  
ο‚‘
Fuse No. A17 (15 A)  
Location Under-hood fuse/relay box  
Is the fuses OK?  
YES : Go to step 4.  
NO : Repair a short in the IG1(COIL) wire between the ignition coil and the No. A17 (15 A) fuse. Also  
replace the No. A17 (15 A) fuse, then do the repair verification .  
4. Relay check:  
ο‚‘
1. Remove the ignition coil relay (A) from the under-hood fuse/relay box.

2. TEST THE IGNITION COIL RELAY .  
Is the relay OK?  
YES : Go to step 5.  
NO : Replace the ignition coil relay, then do the repair verification .  
5. Open wire check (IG1(IGN COIL) lines):  
ο‚‘
1. Reinstall the ignition coil relay.  
ο‚‘
2. Disconnect the following connector(s).  
Ignition coil 3P connector (problem cylinder)  
ο‚‘
ο‚‘
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).  
4. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.  
Test condition IG ON (II)  
Ignition coil 3P connector (problem cylinder): disconnected  
Test circuit IG1(IGN COIL)  
Test point 1 Ignition coil 3P connector No. 1 (RED)  
Test point 2 Body ground

Is there battery voltage?  
YES : The IG1(IGN COIL) wire is OK. Go to step 6.  
NO : Repair an open in the IG1(IGN COIL) wire between the ignition coil and the ignition coil relay,  
then do the repair verification .  
6. Open wire check (PG(COIL) lines):  
ο‚‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).  
ο‚‘
2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.  
Test condition IG ON (II)  
Ignition coil 3P connector (problem cylinder): disconnected  
Test circuit PG(COIL)  
Test point 1 Ignition coil 3P connector No. 2 (BLK)  
Test point 2 Body ground

Is there continuity?  
YES : The PG(COIL) wire is OK. Go to step 7.  
NO  
Repair an open in the PG(COIL) wire between the ignition coil and G102, then do the repair  
verification .  
7. Shorted wire check (IGN PULSE lines):  
ο‚‘
1. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.  
2. Disconnect the following connector.  
ο‚‘
PCM connector C (49P)  
ο‚‘
3. Check for continuity between body ground and the appropriate PCM connector terminal of the  
problem ignition coil (see table).  
Test condition IG LOCK (0)  
Ignition coil 3P connector (problem cylinder): disconnected  
PCM connector C (49P): disconnected

Is there continuity?  
YES : Repair a short in the IGN PULSE wire between the PCM and the ignition coil, then do the repair  
verification .  
NO : The IGN PULSE wires are not shorted. Go to step 8.  
8. Open wire check (IGN PULSE lines):  
ο‚‘
1. Check for continuity between appropriate ignition coil 3P connector terminal No. 1 and the  
appropriate PCM connector terminal of the problem ignition coil (see table).  
Test condition IG LOCK (0)  
Ignition coil 3P connector (problem cylinder): disconnected  
PCM connector C (49P): disconnected

Is there continuity?  
YES : The IGN PULSE wires are OK. Update the PCM See PCM REMOVAL AND  
INSTALLATION or PCM UPDATE if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-  
good PCM See PCM REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or PCM UPDATE , then do the repair  
verification .  
NO : Repair an open in the IGN PULSE wire between the PCM and the ignition coil, then do the repair  
verification .

1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).  
2. Reconnect all connectors.  
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).  
4. Reset the PCM with the HDS See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE A/T SYSTEM or HOW  
TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND EMISSIONS SYSTEMS .

Is DTC P0351, P0352, P0353 and/or P0354 indicated?  
YES : Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the ignition coil and the PCM. If the PCM was updated,  
substitute a known-good PCM See PCM REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or PCM UPDATE , then  
recheck. If the PCM was substituted, go to step 1.  
NO : Troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM See PCM  
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or PCM UPDATE . If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are  
indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.  
DTC P0365: CMP SENSOR B CIRCUIT NO SIGNAL
