Honda CR-V Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) system ➜ DTC P0133: A/F Sensor (Sensor 1) Malfunction/Slow Response

DTC Description  
OBD STATUS  
P0128 COOLING SYSTEM MALFUNCTION  
Does the HDS indicate PASSED, FAILED, or NOT COMPLETED?  
PASSED : Troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM See PCM  
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or PCM UPDATE . If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are  
indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.  
FAILED : Go to step 1 and recheck. If the PCM was updated, replace the original PCM See PCM  
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or PCM UPDATE , then check the OBD STATUS again.  
NOT COMPLETED : Meet the test condition, and check the OBD STATUS again.

NOTE:  
Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board  
snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information See HOW  
TO TROUBLESHOOT THE A/T SYSTEM or HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE  
FUEL AND EMISSIONS SYSTEMS .  
If DTC P0139 is stored at the same time as DTC P0133, troubleshoot DTC  
P0139 first, then recheck for DTC P0133.

P0133 A/F SENSOR (SENSOR 1) MALFUNCTION/SLOW  
RESPONSE  
1. Problem verification:  
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).  
2. Clear the DTC with the HDS See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE A/T SYSTEM or  
HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND EMISSIONS SYSTEMS .  
3. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3, 000 rpm without load (in P or N) until the radiator  
fan comes on, then let it idle.  
4. Test-drive under these conditions:  
Engine coolant temperature (ECT SENSOR 1) above 158 °F (70 °C)  
Transmission in D  
Engine speed between 1, 500-3, 000 rpm  
Drive the vehicle at 25 mph (40 km/h) or less for 5 minutes, then drive at a steady speed of  
32 mph (52 km/h) or more

5. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P0133 with the HDS.

P0133 A/F SENSOR (SENSOR 1) MALFUNCTION/SLOW RESPONSE  
Does the HDS indicate FAILED?  
YES : REPLACE THE A/F SENSOR (SENSOR 1) , then do the repair verification .  
NO : If the HDS indicates PASSED, intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor  
connections or loose terminals at the A/F sensor (Sensor 1) and the PCM. If the HDS indicates  
EXECUTING, keep driving until a result comes on. If the HDS indicates OUT OF CONDITION, go to  
step 3 on this step and recheck.  
REPAIR VERIFICATION (OBD STATUS CHECK)  
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).  
2. Reset the PCM with the HDS See HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE A/T SYSTEM or HOW  
TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND EMISSIONS SYSTEMS .  
3. DO THE PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE .  
4. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3, 000 rpm without load (in P or N) until the radiator fan  
comes on, then let it idle.  
5. Test-drive under these conditions:  
Engine coolant temperature (ECT SENSOR 1) above 158 °F (70 °C)  
Transmission in D  
Engine speed between 1, 500-3, 000 rpm  
Drive the vehicle at 25 mph (40 km/h) or less for 5 minutes, then drive at a steady speed of 32 mph  
(52 km/h) or more

6. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P0133 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Does the HDS indicate PASSED, FAILED, EXECUTING, or OUT OF CONDITION?  
PASSED : Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs were indicated, go to the  
indicated DTC's troubleshooting.  
FAILED : Go to step 1 and recheck.  
EXECUTING : Keep the test condition until a result comes on.  
OUT OF CONDITION : Meet the test condition, and check the OBD STATUS again.
