Is there continuity?
YES : The GA AUDIO wires are OK. Go to step 9.
NO : There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the USB adapter control unit. Replace the
affected shielded harness.
9. Audio unit check:
ο‚‘
1. SUBSTITUTE A KNOWN-GOOD USB ADAPTER CONTROL UNIT , and recheck.
Does the symptom go away?
YES : Replace the original USB adapter control unit.
NO : REPLACE THE AUDIO UNIT .
VOLUME DOES NOT CHANGE

NOTE:



CHECK THE VEHICLE BATTERY CONDITION FIRST .
Set the fader and the balance positions to the center.
Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
1. Problem verification:
ο‚‘
ο‚‘
ο‚‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Listen for sound from the speakers.
3. Operate the volume knob to see if the volume changes.
Does the volume change?
YES : Intermittent failure. The system is OK at this time.
NO : REPLACE THE AUDIO-NAVIGATION UNIT .
NO : The failure is duplicated, go to step 2.
2. Audio unit check:
ο‚‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
ο‚‘
2. SUBSTITUTE A KNOWN-GOOD AUDIO SWITCH PANEL , and recheck.
Does the symptom go away?
YES : Replace the original audio switch panel.
NO : REPLACE THE AUDIO UNIT .
VOLUME DOES NOT INCREASE WITH SPEED (WITH NAVIGATION)

NOTE:


CHECK THE VEHICLE BATTERY CONDITION FIRST .
If possible, have the customer demonstrate their concern and compare it
against a known-good vehicle.

Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
1. Problem verification:
1. Test-drive the vehicle at freeway speeds, and monitor if the volume increases, then compare it to
a known-good vehicle with the same SVC setting.
ο‚‘
Does the volume increase, and is it comparable to a known-good vehicle.?
YES : Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. If the customer's concern is that the level of
volume change is not enough, refer to the OM to change the SVC level setting.
NO : The failure is duplicated, go to step 2.
2. Determine possible failure area (audio setting, others):
ο‚‘
1. Verify the SVC mode setting in the audio-navigation unit sound set-up.
Is the SVC set to off?
YES : Change the setting to SVC MID, and recheck.
NO : Go to step 3.
3. Determine possible failure area (VSP signal):
ο‚‘
1. Enter the system diagnostic mode See NAVIGATION SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC MODE or
NAVIGATION SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC MODE and check the car status.
ο‚‘
2. Drive the vehicle.

Does the VSP change from 0 (stopped) to 1 (driving) .
YES : REPLACE THE AUDIO-NAVIGATION UNIT .
NO : Go to step 4.
4. Determine possible failure area (VSP line, others):
ο‚‘
ο‚‘
ο‚‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
3. Disconnect the following connector.
PCM connector A (49P)
ο‚‘
ο‚‘
ο‚‘
4. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
5. Move the shift lever to N.
6. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition IG ON (II)

Is there about 5 V?
YES : The VSP wire is OK. Go to step 6.
NO : Go to step 5.
5. Open wire check (VSP line):
ο‚‘
1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition IG ON (II)
PCM connector A (49P): disconnected
Test circuit VSP
Test point 1 Audio-navigation unit connector A (24P) No. 23 (GRN)
Test point 2 Body ground

Is there about 5 V?
YES : Repair an open in the wire between the audio-navigation unit and the PCM.
NO : REPLACE THE AUDIO-NAVIGATION UNIT .
6. PCM check:
ο‚‘
ο‚‘
ο‚‘
ο‚‘
ο‚‘
ο‚‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
2. Reconnect PCM connector A (49P).
3. Raise the vehicle on a lift.
4. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
5. Move the shift lever to N.
6. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition IG ON (II), with the tires slowly rotating

Does the voltage pulse between 0 V and 5 V as you rotate the tires by hand?
YES : REPLACE THE AUDIO-NAVIGATION UNIT .
NO : Update the PCM See PCM REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or PCM UPDATE if it does
not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM See PCM REMOVAL AND
INSTALLATION or PCM UPDATE , and recheck.
