Antenna  


WITH NAVIGATION  
XM antenna error.  
WITHOUT NAVIGATION  
NOTE:  
do these checks with the vehicle parked outside with a clear view of the southern horizon.  
AUDIO SYSTEM SELF-DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION  
HOW TO OBTAIN THE AUDIO UNIT SERIAL NUMBER  
The audio-navigation unit (with navigation) does not support this function.  
This procedure can only be done after the power has been disconnected and reconnected to the audio unit, and  
the audio unit displays Push and hold POWER for more than two seconds to start. when the audio unit is turned  
on.  
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).  
2. Make sure the audio unit is turned off.  
3. Use the DISPLAY button on the steering wheel to select the screen that displays Audio Off.  
4. Press and hold the preset No. 1 and No. 6 buttons.  
5. While holding the buttons, press the POWER button.  
6. Release the buttons, and displays an 8-digit serial number.

7. Use all 8 numbers as the serial number when using the Interactive Network (iN) to retrieve the 5-digit  
anti-theft code.  
8. To end the function, turn the audio system off, or turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).  
HOW TO CHECK THE AUDIO SYSTEM CONDITION  
The audio-navigation unit (with navigation) does not support this diagnosis.  
The audio system has a self-diagnostic function to help find problems with the audio system. To run the self-  
diagnostic function, do the following:  
NOTE:  




CHECK THE VEHICLE BATTERY CONDITION FIRST.  
Not all self-diagnostic functions appear on all models.  
There may be other self-diagnostic functions that are for factory use only.  
The self-diagnostic function does not find every problem with the audio  
system.  
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).  
2. Make sure the audio unit is turned off.  
3. With multi-information display, use the DISPLAY button on the steering wheel to select the screen that  
displays Audio Off.  
4. Press and hold the preset No. 1 and No. 6 buttons.  
5. While holding the buttons, press the POWER button.  
6. Release the buttons, and the self-diagnosis begins.

7. When you are in the self-diagnostic mode, pressing a preset button starts the diagnostic mode that is  
assigned to that preset button. To exit this mode, go to step 8. Once you exit this test, you must start again  
at step 1.  
NOTE:  
The segments (A) change to the illumination duty when you turn the  
headlights switch is in parking light position.  


8. To end the self-diagnostic mode, turn the audio system off, or turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).  
AUDIO BUTTON, KNOB, AND AUDIO REMOTE SWITCH DETECTION MODE (PRESS NO. 2  
BUTTON)  
This test allows you to manually check all the audio switch panel buttons and knobs, and the audio remote  
switch buttons. When the button, the knob, or the switch is properly detected, the name or value of the input  
appears on the display.  
NOTE:  


The POWER button does not support this diagnosis.  
The DISPLAY button and the MENU button on the audio remote/multi-  
information display switch are not supported with this diagnosis.  
ENTIRE LCD LIGHTING/LIGHTS-OUTS MODE (PRESS NO. 3 BUTTON)  
This diagnostic screen checks for segments that may be dead (off) or stuck on.  
NOTE:  
The multi-information display unit does not support this diagnosis.  
All the display segments should be on. If any segments are dead (off), REPLACE THE CENTER DISPLAY  
UNIT . With all the segments on, press the No. 3 button a second time. The entire display must turn black. If  
any segments are stuck on, REPLACE THE CENTER DISPLAY UNIT .

ILLUMINATION LEVEL (FOR THE GAUGE ILLUMINATION) INDICATION (PRESS NO. 4  
BUTTON)  
This diagnostic screen checks the gauge illumination input.  
With the headlights on, use the dimmer knob to dim and brighten the gauge. You should see the value change  
from 1 (max low) to 22 (max high). If it does not change, go to DISPLAY DOES NOT DIM OR BRIGHTEN  
WITH DIMMER TROUBLESHOOTING .

This diagnostic screen checks that the audio unit is receiving the VSP indication.  
When you test drive the vehicle, the VSP indicates the vehicle speed in km/h.

This diagnostic screen checks the audio unit's reception level in decibels (dB). This level then can be used in the  
diagnosis of audio unit reception quality.

Preparation:  

Park the vehicle outside in a good location away from tall buildings, mountains, high-voltage power line  
or any other object that may interfere with reception.  


Tune to a powerful local FM radio station then write down the radio station number.  
Tune to a powerful local AM radio station then write down the radio station number.  
1. Enter the reception level indication mode in the self-diagnostic function.  
2. Tune to the FM radio station you wrote down in Preparation using the tuning button, and note the decibel  
level of that station when you release the button.  
3. Press and release the SETUP button to turn the AM/FM antenna amplifier off.  
4. Note the decibel level of that station with the AM/FM antenna amplifier off.  
5. Press and release the SETUP button to turn the AM/FM antenna amplifier back on.  
6. Press and hold the FM/AM button (with XM) or the AM button (without XM) for more than 5 seconds to  
enter the AM reception mode.  
7. Tune to the AM radio station you wrote down in preparation using the tuning button, and note the decibel  
level of that station.  
8. Press and release the SETUP button to turn the AM/FM antenna amplifier off.  
9. Note the decibel level of that station with the AM/FM antenna amplifier off.  
10. Press and release the SETUP button to turn the AM/FM antenna amplifier back on.  
11. To end the self-diagnostic mode, turn the audio system off, or turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).  
12. Compare your results to a known-good, (make sure it is the same year and trim level) in the same location  
and direction, and under the same environmental conditions.  

If the reception level is within 10 % of the known-good vehicle, no repair is needed at this time.  

If the reception level is at least 10 % less than the known good vehicle, go to POOR AM OR FM  
RADIO RECEPTION OR INTERFERENCE TROUBLESHOOTING.  
SPEAKER CHECK MODE  
NOTE:  


CHECK THE VEHICLE BATTERY CONDITION FIRST.  
Not all self-diagnostic functions appear on all models.  
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).  
2. Make sure the audio unit is turned off.  
3. With multi-information display, use the DISPLAY button on the steering wheel to select the screen that  
displays Audio Off.  
4. Press and hold the preset No. 1 and No. 3 buttons.  
5. While holding the buttons, press the POWER button.  
6. Release the buttons, and the speaker check mode begins.

When you press the FORWARD button, the system checks the speakers in this order: 1-->2-->3-->4-->5-  
->6

XM SELF-DIAGNOSIS  
NOTE:  


CHECK THE VEHICLE BATTERY CONDITION FIRST.  
This diagnostic screen checks the audio unit's XM radio reception level.  
To check the XM reception, do the following:  
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).  
2. Select XM1 mode.  
3. Turn off the audio system.  
4. Press and hold the preset No. 3 and No. 6 buttons.  
5. While holding the buttons, press the POWER button. Continue holding the buttons for about 5 seconds,  
then release the buttons.  
6. Press and release preset No. 1 button to read the error code.

DISPLAY DIAGNOSIS  
Service Diag  
NOTE:  


CHECK THE VEHICLE BATTERY CONDITION FIRST.  
This diagnosis is applied to the multi-information display unit only.  



Not all self-diagnostic functions appear on all models.  
There may be other self-diagnostic functions that are for factory use only.  
If you run this diagnosis with a door open, press the INFO button to exit  
the door open screen.  
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).  
2. Press the MENU button to display the Vehicle Menu.  
3. Press and hold the MENU button (A) and then the SOURCE button (B) on the audio remote switch for  
about 10 seconds. The Service Diag menu screen appears.

4. Use the directional pad (C) to select the diagnosis, then press the SOURCE button to enter your selection.

5. To end the self-diagnostic function, turn the audio system off, press the MENU button, or turn the  
ignition switch to LOCK (0).  
In Line Diag (i-MID)  
NOTE:  
If the vehicle left the factory in the factory diagnostic mode, you will see this  
screen every time you turn the ignition switch to ON (II). You may also see this  
screen if you recently replaced the multi-information display unit.  
When the multi-information display unit is powered up for the first time at the factory or sometimes when a  
remanufactured multi-information display unit is installed, the factory diagnostic screen (In Line Diag) appears.  
Normally the factory does the steps necessary to verify proper operation and terminate the factory diagnosis.  
Until the proper confirmation sequence is done, the screen appears every time the vehicle is started. Also, the In  
Line Diag function can be performed from the Service Diag menu.  
Select the In Line Diag in the Service Diag menu, then select the Diagnostic Result.

The In Line Diag function runs automatically. When the diagnosis finishes, the icons turn different colors based  
on their test status (OK or NG).  
NOTE:  
The Result (A) indicates NG until the audio remote switch buttons (the DISPLAY  
button or the MENU button and the SOURCE button or the directional pad) are  
pressed.

Errors that require replacement of hardware or harness.  
Errors that do not require hardware replacement, such as a missing optional systems (audio  
unit or rearview camera).

White The diagnosis is running. The screen functions are locked out while the diagnosis runs.  
After the test is complete, press the SOURCE button to exit.

Camera  
Wide View Normal View Top Down View  
This screen adjusts the rearview camera image guide lines. Press the audio unit selector knob to select the rear  
view mode (wide, normal, top down). If you need to adjust a guide line, select the point you want to adjust  
using the SOURCE button, and use the directional pad, and you can move the guide line.  
The coordinate of the guide line (A) indicates the selected point position on the screen.  
If you need to reset the guide line to the factory settings, press and hold the MENU button for more than 2  
seconds.

After the setting is complete, press the MENU button to exit.

These diagnostic screens allow you to troubleshoot the display unit. Select the item you want to troubleshoot,  
and follow the diagnostic instructions.  









This screen shows the colors being used for the multi-information display unit. This is for factory use only.  
The colors should appear in the following order: White, Yellow, Light Blue, Green, Purple, Red, Blue, Black

Black  
This screen checks for pixels that may be stuck on. The entire display must be black. If pixels are stuck on,  
REPLACE THE MULTI-INFORMATION DISPLAY UNIT.

White  
This screen checks for pixels that may be dead (off). The entire display must be white. If there are dead pixels,  
REPLACE THE MULTI-INFORMATION DISPLAY UNIT.

Red, Green, Blue  
These screens checks that the multi-information display unit is displaying red, green, and blue colors properly.  
If any of the colors are missing, REPLACE THE MULTI-INFORMATION DISPLAY UNIT.

Gray Bar  
This screen checks problems with contrast. You should be able to see the changes from bar to bar across the  
scale. It is normal for the two bars on either side to appear the same. If you cannot see changes from bar to bar,  
REPLACE THE MULTI-INFORMATION DISPLAY UNIT .

Point  
This screen is for factory use only.

Product Info  
This screen displays the parts number (A), the product number (PN), and the serial number (S/N) about the  
multi-information display unit. This is for factory use only.

Artwork  
This screen allows you to select the iPod album art function on or off. Refer to the Owner's Manual for the  
album art function.

This screen allows you to select the PANDORA function on or off. Refer to the Owner's Manual for the

HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE AUDIO SYSTEM  
ANTI-THEFT FEATURE  
The audio-navigation unit or the audio unit (with multi-information display) has an anti-theft protection circuit.  
When one of the following occurs, the unit enters the anti-theft mode.  


Disconnecting the battery.  
Disconnecting audio-navigation unit connector A (24P), connector B (20P), or audio unit connector A  
(24P).  


With navigation: Removing the No. A1-6 (100 A) fuse or the No. A29 (10 A) fuse from the under-hood  
fuse/relay box.  
Without navigation: Removing the No. A1-6 (100 A) fuse or the No. A2-2 (60 A) fuse from the under-  
hood fuse/relay box or the No. B25 (10 A) fuse from the under-dash fuse/relay box.  
After service, reconnect power to the audio-navigation unit or the audio unit, and turn the ignition switch to ON  
(II). There are two ways to exit the anti-theft mode:  

Press and hold the VOLUME/POWER knob or the POWER button for at least 2 seconds. The audio-  
navigation unit or the audio unit automatically exits the anti-theft mode. If the audio-navigation unit or  
the audio unit does not exit anti-theft mode, like in cases where a known-good unit was substituted for  
testing, enter the anti-theft code.  

Enter the 5-digit anti-theft code.  
There are no anti-theft cards included with the vehicle. If you need the code, you can get the code from the  
Interactive Network (iN) using the audio-navigation unit or the audio unit serial number. The unit serial number  
can easily be obtained without removing the audio-navigation unit or the audio unit, do the following:  

With navigation: Go to Anti-Theft Future in How to Troubleshoot the Navigation System See HOW  
TO TROUBLESHOOT THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM or HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE  
NAVIGATION SYSTEM .  

Without navigation: GO TO HOW TO OBTAIN THE AUDIO UNIT SERIAL NUMBER IN SELF-  
DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION.  
After you retrieve the serial number, go to the iN, select Service, Vehicle Information, Anti-Theft Code Inquiry,  
and fill out the form.  
When the audio-navigation unit or the audio unit is installed in another vehicle (same Year/Model/Trim), you  
have to enter the 5-digit anti-theft security code. After that, you can release the anti-theft mode by pressing and  
holding the VOLUME/POWER knob or the POWER button.
