Is there continuity?
YES : The GA BUS+ and the GA BUS- wires are OK. Go to step 17.
NO : There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the USB adapter control unit. Replace the
affected shielded harness.
17. Audio unit check:

1. SUBSTITUTE A KNOWN-GOOD USB ADAPTER CONTROL UNIT, AND RECHECK.
Does the symptom go away?
YES : Replace the original USB adapter control unit.
NO : REPLACE THE AUDIO UNIT .
USB INPUT SOUND IS LOW OR CANNOT BE HEARD (WITH NAVIGATION)

CHECK THE VEHICLE BATTERY CONDITION FIRST .
Not all players and player functions work with the USB adapter. Please see
the Owner's Manual for more information. Always test the customer's USB
device in a known-good vehicle of the same year and trim (if possible).
Technologies change and are updated frequently which may result in USB
devices working in newer vehicles, but not in older vehicles of the same
model.

Check the USB device's volume settings.
Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
1. Problem verification:

1. On the customer's vehicle, connect the customer's USB device to the USB port located in the
center console.
ο‘
ο‘
ο‘
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
3. Turn on the audio system, and press the AUDIO button to select the USB mode.
4. Check if the USB device can be operated with the audio-navigation unit (Folders or Files
UP/DOWN, etc.).
Can you operate the USB device, and is the sound normal?
YES : Intermittent failure. The USB device is OK at this time.
NO : The failure is duplicated, go to step 2.
NO : Go to USB device does not function USB device does not function (with navigation)
troubleshooting.
2. Determine possible failure area (USB device, others):
ο‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
ο‘
2. Connect the customer's USB device to a known-good vehicle (same year/trim) that is equipped
with a USB adapter, and check the USB device operation.
Does the USB work properly in the known-good vehicle?
YES : Go to step 3.
NO : USB device is faulty or not compatible.
3. Determine possible failure area (XM receiver).

1. DISCONNECT THE XM RECEIVER and retest.
Does the symptom go away?
YES : Replace the XM receiver.
NO : Go to step 4.
4. Determine possible failure area (HFL control unit)
ο‘
1. Disconnect the HFL control unit See HANDSFREELINK CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL
AND INSTALLATION or HANDSFREELINK CONTROL UNIT UPDATE and retest.
Does the symptom go away?
YES : Replace the HFL control unit.
NO : Go to step 5.
5. Shorted wire check (GA AUDIO lines):

1. Return to the customer's vehicle.
ο‘
2. Disconnect the following connectors.
Audio-navigation unit connector C (14P)
Multi-information display unit connector A (32P)
HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector
XM receiver connector A (14P)
ο‘
3. Check for continuity between these test points and body ground individually.
Test condition IG LOCK (0)
Audio-navigation unit connector C (14P): disconnected
Multi-information display unit connector A (32P): disconnected
HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector: disconnected
XM receiver connector A (14P): disconnected

Is there continuity?
YES : There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the multi-
information display unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO : The GA AUDIO wires are not shorted to ground. Go to step 6.
6. Shorted wire check (SH GA AUDIO line to another lines):

1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

Is there continuity between any of the terminals?
YES : There is a short in the wires between the audio-navigation unit and the multi-information display
unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO : The GA AUDIO wires are not shorted in the wires. Go to step 7.
7. Open wire check (GA AUDIO lines):

1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

recheck.
Does the symptom go away?
YES : Replace the original multi-information display unit.
NO : REPLACE THE AUDIO-NAVIGATION UNIT .
USB INPUT SOUND IS LOW OR CANNOT BE HEARD (WITH MULTI-INFORMATION DISPLAY,
WITHOUT NAVIGATION)
