Honda CR-V Audio System Troubleshooting & Testing ➜ Audio System Information Does Not Display on the Multi-Information Display (Without Navigation)

Is the XM information displayed on the multi-information display unit?  
YES : Replace the HandsFreeLink control unit See HANDSFREELINK CONTROL UNIT  
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or HANDSFREELINK CONTROL UNIT UPDATE .  
NO : REPLACE THE XM RECEIVER .  
11. Audio-navigation unit check:  
ο‚‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).  
ο‚‘
2. SUBSTITUTE A KNOWN-GOOD MULTI-INFORMATION DISPLAY UNIT , and  
recheck.  
Does the symptom go away?  
YES : Replace the original multi-information display unit.  
NO : REPLACE THE AUDIO-NAVIGATION UNIT .  
AUDIO SYSTEM INFORMATION DOES NOT DISPLAY ON THE MULTI-INFORMATION  
DISPLAY (WITHOUT NAVIGATION)

NOTE:  

CHECK THE VEHICLE BATTERY CONDITION FIRST .  


Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.  
The climate control unit 32P (black) connector and the HFL control unit  
32P (grey) connector are the same shape. Make sure the correct connector  
is connected to the applicable unit.  
1. Determine possible failure area (audio system, others):  
ο‚‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).  
ο‚‘
2. Check if any MID information appears on the multi-information display unit.  
Is there any information displayed?  
YES : Go to step 2.  
NO : Go to MULTI-INFORMATION DISPLAY UNIT DOES NOT WORK  
TROUBLESHOOTING.  
2. Problem verification:  
ο‚‘
1. Turn on the audio unit, and check the audio information on the multi-information display unit.  
Does the audio information display properly?  
YES : Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.  
NO : The failure is duplicated, go to step 3.  
3. Shorted wire check (DUET CONT line):  
ο‚‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).  
2. Disconnect the following connectors.  
ο‚‘
Audio unit connector B (20P)  
Multi-information display unit connector A (32P)  
3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.  
Test condition IG LOCK (0)  
ο‚‘
Audio unit connector B (20P): disconnected  
Multi-information display unit connector A (32P): disconnected  
Test circuit DUET CONT  
Test point 1 Multi-information display unit connector A (32P) No. 30 (LT GRN)  
Test point 2 Body ground

Is there continuity?  
YES : Repair a short to body ground in the wire between the multi-information display unit and the audio  
unit.  
NO : The DUET CONT wire is not shorted to ground. Go to step 4.  
4. Open wire check (DUET CONT line):  
ο‚‘
1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.  
Test condition IG LOCK (0)  
Audio unit connector B (20P): disconnected  
Multi-information display unit connector A (32P): disconnected  
Test circuit DUET CONT  
Test point 1 Audio unit connector B (20P) No. 14 (LT GRN)  
Test point 2 Multi-information display unit connector A (32P) No. 30 (LT GRN)

Is there continuity?  
YES : The DUET CONT wire is OK. Go to step 5.  
NO : Repair an open in the wire between the audio unit and the multi-information display unit.  
5. Shorted wire check (DUET RX line, DUET TX line):  
ο‚‘
1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.  
Test condition IG LOCK (0)  
Audio unit connector B (20P): disconnected  
Multi-information display unit connector A (32P): disconnected  
Test circuit DUET RX  
Test point 1 Audio unit connector B (20P) No. 4 (RED)  
Test point 2 Body ground  
Test circuit DUET TX  
Test point 1 Audio unit connector B (20P) No. 5 (GRN)  
Test point 2 Body ground

Is there continuity?  
YES : There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the multi-information  
display unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.  
NO : The DUET RX and the DUET TX wires are not shorted to ground. Go to step 6.  
6. Shorted wire check (DUET RX line to DUET TX line):  
ο‚‘
1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.  
Test condition IG LOCK (0)  
Audio unit connector B (20P): disconnected  
Multi-information display unit connector A (32P): disconnected  
Test circuit DUET RX, DUET TX  
Test point 1 Audio unit connector B (20P) No. 4 (RED)  
Test point 2 Audio unit connector B (20P) No. 5 (GRN)

Is there continuity?  
YES : There is a short in the wires between the audio unit and the multi-information display unit. Replace  
the affected shielded harness.  
NO : The DUET RX and the DUET TX wires are not shorted. Go to step 7.  
7. Shorted wire check (SH DUET line to another lines):  
ο‚‘
1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.  
Test condition IG LOCK (0)  
Audio unit connector B (20P): disconnected  
Multi-information display unit connector A (32P): disconnected  
Test circuit SH DUET, DUET RX  
Test point 1 Audio unit connector B (20P) No. 15 (GRY)  
Test point 2 Audio unit connector B (20P) No. 4 (RED)  
Test circuit SH DUET, DUET TX  
Test point 1 Audio unit connector B (20P) No. 15 (GRY)  
Test point 2 Audio unit connector B (20P) No. 5 (GRN)

Is there continuity?  
YES : There is a short in the wires between the audio unit and the multi-information display unit. Replace  
the affected shielded harness.  
NO : The SH DUET wire is OK. Go to step 8.  
8. Open wire check (DUET RX line, DUET TX line):  
ο‚‘
1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.  
Test condition IG LOCK (0)  
Audio unit connector B (20P): disconnected  
Multi-information display unit connector A (32P): disconnected  
Test circuit DUET RX  
Test point 1 Audio unit connector B (20P) No. 4 (RED)  
Test point 2 Multi-information display unit connector A (32P) No. 13 (RED)  
Test circuit DUET TX  
Test point 1 Audio unit connector B (20P) No. 5 (GRN)  
Test point 2 Multi-information display unit connector A (32P) No. 29 (GRN)

Is there continuity?  
YES : The DUET RX and the DUET TX wires are OK. Go to step 9.  
NO : There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the multi-information display unit.  
Replace the affected shielded harness.  
9. Audio unit check:  
ο‚‘
1. SUBSTITUTE A KNOWN-GOOD MULTI-INFORMATION DISPLAY UNIT , and  
recheck.  
Does the symptom go away?  
YES : Replace the original multi-information display unit.  
NO : REPLACE THE AUDIO UNIT .  
AUDIO SYSTEM SOUND IS WEAK OR DISTORTED (DISPLAY IS NORMAL)

NOTE:  


CHECK THE VEHICLE BATTERY CONDITION FIRST .  
Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.  
1. Problem verification:  
ο‚‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).  
2. Turn on the audio unit, and check for sound in each mode (AM/FM and CD).  
ο‚‘
Is there sound from the speakers, and is the sound quality normal in each mode?  
YES : Intermittent failure. The system is OK at this time. Check for loose connections at the audio unit  
and each speaker.  
NO : Go to Poor AM or FM radio reception or interference (With Navigation) troubleshooting.  
NO : Go to Poor AM or FM radio reception or interference (without navigation) troubleshooting.  
NO : Go to AUDIO DISC DOES NOT PLAY TROUBLESHOOTING.  
NO : GO TO SOUND QUALITY DIAGNOSIS .  
AUDIO UNIT BUTTON ILLUMINATION DOES NOT WORK

CHECK THE VEHICLE BATTERY CONDITION FIRST .  
Check for B-CAN DTCs and resolve them before troubleshooting.  
Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.  
The climate control unit 32P (black) connector and the HFL control unit 32P (grey) connector are the  
same shape. Make sure the correct connector is connected to the applicable unit.  
1. Problem verification:

ο‚‘
ο‚‘
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).  
2. Turn the combination lighting switch to the parking light position.  
3. Check if the audio unit buttons are illuminated.
