Auto High-Beam (High Beam Support System)
Using a camera mounted to the inside of the windscreen, this system detects light
sources ahead of the vehicle. Depending on the light source, the system
automatically switches the headlights to high beam for optimal visibility at night.
1Auto High-Beam (High Beam Support System)
The auto high-beam determines when to change the
headlight beams by responding to the brightness of
the lights ahead of your vehicle. In the following
cases, the system may not respond to the lights
properly:
β’ The brightness of the lights from the preceding or
oncoming vehicle is intense or poor.
β’ Visibility is poor due to the weather (rain, snow,
fog, windscreen frost, etc.).
The system operates when:
β The headlight switch is in AUTO.
β The lever is in the low beam
position.
β The low beams are on and the
system recognises that you are
driving at night.
β’ Other light sources, such as streetlights and electric
billboards are illuminating the road ahead.
β’ The brightness level of the road ahead constantly
changes.
β The vehicle speed is above 40 km/h
(25 mph).
β’ The road is bumpy or with many curves.
β’ A vehicle cuts in front of you, or a vehicle in front
of you is not in the preceding or oncoming
direction.
How it works
When the camera detects lights coming from a preceding or oncoming vehicle, the
headlights remain in low beam.
β’ Your vehicle is tilted with a heavy load in the rear.
When the camera detects no lights coming from a preceding or oncoming vehicle,
the headlights change to high beam.
If you find the timing of beam changes inconvenient
for driving, change the headlight beams manually.
The view angle or distance that the camera can detect lights ahead differs
depending on conditions, such as the brightness of the lights and the weather.
If you do not want the system to be activated at any
time when the headlight switch is in AUTO, consult a
dealer.

For the auto high-beam to work properly:
β’ Do not place an object that reflects light on the
dashboard.
β’ Keep the windscreen around the camera clean.
β’ Do not attach an object, sticker or film to the area
around the camera.
To activate the system, turn the headlight
switch to AUTO and then set the headlights
to low beam. The auto high-beam indicator
will come on.

If the camera receives a strong impact, or repairing of
the area near the camera is required, consult a dealer.
Headlight Switch
If the
message appears:
β’ Use the climate control system to cool down the
interior and, if necessary, also use demister mode
with the airflow directed towards the camera.
β’ Start driving the vehicle to lower the windscreen
temperature, which cools down the area around
the camera.
The high beams remain on unless:
β’ You have been driving below 24 km/h (15 mph) for an extended amount of time.
β’ The speed of the vehicle drops below 10 km/h (6 mph).
β’ The windscreen wipers have been running at a high speed for more than a few
seconds.
β’ You enter a well lit location.
If the
message appears:
β’ Park your vehicle in a safe place, and clean the
windscreen. If the message does not disappear
after you have cleaned the windscreen and driven
for a while, have your vehicle checked by a dealer.
If needed, you can temporarily turn the system off manually. Turn on the high
beams by pushing the lever forward until you hear a click, or flash the high beams
once by pulling the lever toward you. To turn the system back on, pull and hold the
lever towards you for a few seconds.

The auto high-beam is in the previously selected
disabled or re-enabled setting each time you start the
engine.
Disable or re-enable the system when the
vehicle is parked and the ignition switch in ON
(w*1 and the light switch is in the AUTO
position.
Disabling the system: Pull the light switch
lever toward you and hold it for at least 40
seconds. The auto high-beam indicator in the
meter will blink twice.
Re-enabling the system: Pull the light
switch lever toward you and hold it for at least
30 seconds. The auto high-beam indicator in
the meter will blink once.
*1: Models with the keyless access system have an ENGINE START/STOP button instead of an
ignition switch.
