Do the A/C troubleshooting:  
The A/C compressor  
clutch and the A/C  
condenser/radiator fans  
are inoperative, but the  
blower and heater  
controls work  


A/C CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE  
A/C CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE  

A/C signal circuit

The A/C pressure sensor circuit can  
malfunction without setting a DTC  


the terminals

HVAC DTCS  
The A/C compressor  
clutch does not engage, Probable cause: No power to the A/C  
but the A/C compressor clutch  
Blown fuse No. A27 (7.5 A) in  
the under-hood fuse/relay box  
condenser/radiator fans Do the A/C COMPRESSOR CLUTCH  
operate, and the blower CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING  
and heater controls  
work  


A/C System Test  
Poor or loose connections at  
the terminals  


HVAC DTCS  
PGM-FI DTCs See HOW TO  
TROUBLESHOOT THE  
A/T SYSTEM or HOW TO

Probable cause: A/C condenser/radiator  
fan low speed circuit malfunction  
The A/C condenser fan Do the radiator and A/C condenser fan  
and the radiator fan do low speed circuit troubleshooting See  
not run at low speed  
RADIATOR AND A/C CONDENSER  
with the A/C on, but FAN LOW SPEED CIRCUIT  
the blower and heater TROUBLESHOOTING or RADIATOR  
controls work normally AND A/C CONDENSER FAN LOW  
SPEED CIRCUIT  

Blown fuse No. A2-11 (20 A)  
in the under-hood fuse/relay  
box  


Poor ground at G302  
TROUBLESHOOTING  
Poor or loose connections at  
the terminals  


HVAC DTCS  
Probable cause: Malfunction in the fan(s)  
high speed circuit  
Do the following troubleshooting as  
needed:  
PGM-FI DTCs See HOW TO  
TROUBLESHOOT THE  
A/T SYSTEM or HOW TO  
TROUBLESHOOT THE  
FUEL AND EMISSIONS  
SYSTEMS  
The A/C condenser fan  
and/or the radiator fan  
do not run at high  
speed, but do run at  
low speed with the A/C  
on  


A/C CONDENSER FAN HIGH  
SPEED CIRCUIT  
TROUBLESHOOTING  


Poor ground at G302  
RADIATOR FAN HIGH SPEED  
CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING  
Poor or loose connections at  
the terminals  
Probable cause:  


A/C system is overcharged  
Radiator and/or A/C condenser fan  
inoperative  
The A/C compressor  
clutch cycles rapidly  
on and off  
HVAC DTCS  

Excessive pressure on high side of  
system causing pressure sensor to  
turn A/C compressor off  


Thermal protector problem  
Low idle speed  
1. Check the motor linkage See AIR  
MIX CONTROL MOTOR TEST,  
DRIVER'S AIR MIX CONTROL  
MOTOR TEST or  
PASSENGER'S AIR MIX  
CONTROL MOTOR TEST  
2. CHECK THE COOLANT LEVEL  
3. CHECK THE RADIATOR CAP  
4. Check the engine coolant  
temperature (ECT) during normal  
operation with the HDS  
5. Check the heater core inlet hose  
temperature:  

If it is COLD, check for  
restrictions in the hose, a  
damaged or leaking  
thermostat, or a damaged or  
leaking water pump  

If it is HOT, check for  


HVAC DTCS  
Insufficient heating  
restrictions in the heater core.  
Back flush or replace the  
heater core See AIR MIX  
CONTROL MOTOR TEST,  
DRIVER'S AIR MIX  
Damaged cylinder head gasket  
CONTROL MOTOR TEST  
or PASSENGER'S AIR MIX  
CONTROL MOTOR TEST  
6. DO THE AIR MIX CONTROL  
MOTOR TEST  
7. Check the blower motor unit for  
obstructions  
8. Check for air leaks around the ducts  
and vents  
A/C COMPRESSOR CLUTCH CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING (CLIMATE
