Before you troubleshoot, REVIEW THE HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE
REAL TIME AWD SYSTEM.
Do not jump the SCS line.
1. Problem verification:
ο‘
1. Test the battery. Charge or replace the battery if necessary.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
ο‘
Does the AWD system indicator come on?
YES : The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.
NO : Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
2. HDS communication check:
ο‘
1. Check that the HDS communicates with the vehicle.
Does the HDS communicate with the vehicle?
YES : Go to step 3.
NO : GO TO THE DLC CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING .
3. Real time AWD system communication check:
ο‘
1. Check the Main Menu of the real time AWD system with the HDS.
Does the HDS show the Main Menu of the real time AWD system?
YES : Go to step 4.
NO : Go to the real time AWD symptom troubleshooting for HDS does not communicate.
4. Real time AWD control unit status check 1:
ο‘
1. Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

Do the current condition(s) match the threshold?
YES : Go to step 5.
NO : Go to step 7.
5. Gauge control module operation check:
ο‘
1. DO THE GAUGE CONTROL MODULE SELF-DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION .
Does the AWD system indicator blink?
YES : Go to step 6.
NO : Replace the gauge control module See GAUGE CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL AND
INSTALLATION or Rewriting the ODO Data and Transferring the Maintenance Minderβ’ Data
to a New Gauge Control Module .
6. Gauge control module DTC check:
ο‘
1. Check for DTCs in the METER system with the HDS.
DTC Description DTC Freeze Frame
Is DTC indicated?
YES : Go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting in the gauge control module.
NO : Update the real time AWD control unit if it does not have the latest software See REAL TIME
AWD CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or REAL TIME AWD CONTROL
UNIT UPDATE, or substitute a known-good real time AWD control unit See REAL TIME AWD
CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or REAL TIME AWD CONTROL UNIT
UPDATE, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with the updated real time AWD control
unit, troubleshooting is complete. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good real time
AWD control unit, replace the original real time AWD control unit See REAL TIME AWD
CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or REAL TIME AWD CONTROL UNIT
UPDATE.
7. Real time AWD control unit status check 2:

1. Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

Longitudinal G sensor learning is incomplete
Do the G Sensor Learning in the Adjustment MENU with the HDS.
Air purge for rear differential is incomplete
Do the ECU Replacement in the Adjustment MENU with the HDS.
AWD operation check is incomplete
Do the ECU Replacement in the Adjustment MENU with the HDS.
HDS DOES NOT COMMUNICATE
